How did we meet, you may ask…..it’s a good story! I bought a house in June 2007 and told my realtor I had three requests for the house: 1. it had to have an attached garage, 2. it had to have a deck and 3. it had to have cute, single male neighbors. I was 99% joking about the third requirement.
I looked at probably 50 homes on paper, narrowed it down to 8 to look at in person. My realtor had me number my favorites and then the next day took me (and my dear friend K) to look at the 8 houses BUT she wouldn’t tell me which one I had marked as my “on paper favorite”. We went to the first house (which happened to be next door to the one I bought) and it was cute and ok but the rooms were a little small and the colors were a little wacky (coming from the girl who had hot pink walls in her bathroom with a zebra print shower curtain!). We drove to another house with beautiful hardwood floors but a very odd layout. We then went to house number 3 and the minute I walked in my heart fluttered and I knew it was “the one”! We walked through it, all the while I was trying my hardest to keep an open mind and look at things objectively, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that was THE house. We looked at 5 others that night but none of them compared and I had lost all interest in looking at any more. Long story short, I bought the third house we toured…which happened to be my #1 on paper. Deck – check, attached garage – check, hot, single neighbors – not included on the listing and none around at the time of the tour.
I moved in the middle of June, my renter and now former friend (never rent to friends!) moved in a few weeks later. As we were settling in we noticed a boy neighbor, who appeared to be single (never any ladies around), who looked pretty cute so little by little we started watching for him. I guess we sort of stalked him – if you want to get technical. Well I automatically called dibs on him and we continued our little guilty pleasure of watching him play bags with his friends in the front yard, telling each other when we saw him outside, etc. My renter even called me one day at work to tell me she knew where about he worked as she had (not on purpose) followed him to work! Somehow I decided I had to meet him…which was reinforced when I saw him up close at a stop light! I tried so hard to play cool and not look over at him.
So one night I had some friends over for dinner and then a bon fire after and after some liquid courage I decided that was the night I was going to meet the hot neighbor! I literally stood by the corner of my house and watched for his truck to come home (thankfully he never parked in the garage and had a loud exhaust system on his truck so it made things easier). After what seemed like forever he came home! As I started walking that way I noticed him walk across the street and right into the neighbor’s house. I was bummed….I didn’t know that neighbor and they weren’t outside so how would I go meet him? Eventually one of my guests heard someone outside and when I looked he and the neighbor were standing out in the driveway so I grabbed my renter and we walked over and introduced ourselves.
Right off the bat I was hooked! I invited them over for the bonfire and they said they were watching the fights but that they’d come over later. Sure enough, they did! We sat around the bonfire and had a few drinks before moving the party to the house (where my good sport friend K was sleeping – she was 8 months preggers so left the party early). We partied and hung out until the wee hours of the morning and as Walleye was leaving he asked if I wanted to come over and watch the Vikings game that next day. I could barely contain myself and it took all I had NOT to wake K up and tell her. So the next day my renter and I marched two doors down and with a pan of lasagna and glasses of chocolate milk in hand. As we watched the game Walleye and I talked more and more and sat closer and closer to each other on the couch. Thankfully my renter picked up on the chemistry and excused herself the minute the game was over. After a few awkward minutes of “what now” silence after the game Walleye finally asked me to dinner and a movie….and from that moment on were have been inseparable!!!
